Dr. Maria Montessori stated that, “The first essential for the child’s development is concentration. The child who concentrates is immensely happy”.
Upon the completion of work, “her eyes shone and she looked round about her. And, strangely enough, after all that long concentration she appeared to be rested rather than fatigued”.
Under the light of this understanding, Sakura Montessori establishes a learning environment which is inviting for children to explore and repeat their tasks in excitement, helping them form concentration from an early age, stimulating their brain development during their golden period from birth to 6.
– Children are given freedom to choose the tasks they want to work on and repeat that task over and over again without being interrupted.
– In Art, Math, Language, Practical Life or Culture areas, children can each choose a task based on their interest, needs, and capacity.
– Teachers step back to quietly observe and record the activities that children engage in, how they communicate, and the emotions shown when encountering obstacles or difficulties. Intervention from teachers is only made when truly needed so not to interrupt their work cycle.
From those observations, teachers at Sakura Montessori can develop an individualized learning pathway for each child to maximize their learning capacity. Also with this approach, children can obtain knowledge in the most natural way and practice essential skills every day to grow up.
