️ In the book “Education and Peace”, Maria Montessori stated that, “personality cannot develop fully without freedom…”
So here at Sakura Montessori, in Montessori classrooms of international standards with the prepared environment, children are given “freedom within limit”, meaning children are free to discover, explore, and do what they like and desire to achieve a task, but that freedom must be within limit and specific rules. Rules are established to help children understand the boundary for their behaviours, at the same time feel loved and respected.
Children are like explorers discovering the world freely to develop their skills of independence, problem solving, adaptation to various situations, discipline as well as to nurture respect right in the Montessori classroom – a “mini society”. .
– Freedom to move around the classroom to enhance their anticipation, activeness, and independence in self-directed learning.
– Freedom to choose their work with hands-on materials and how to do that work also. Children are inspired and encouraged to discover the environment much more.
– Freedom of time: Children are free to work and rest according to their desire. Therefore, they can develop on their own pace and satisfy their sensitive periods between 0-6 years old.
– Freedom to repeat one work and select the pace to work with a certain material or work with many materials in a repeated work cycle. This repetition increased children’s satisfaction in work, which helps them obtain knowledge and improve their skills.
– Freedom for trial and mistakes: Children are free to try and make mistakes and they can self-correct to accumulate learning experiences.
Let’s observe an individual lesson of SMISers in the Montessori classroom of international standards below!
