In addition to curriculum or facilities, nap time is another important factor to a preschool, as young children spend a long day at school, and having a good nap during lunchtime will revive them after half a day of hard work. The better their nap is, the more hormones and energy children will have for better mood and growth.
How does Sakura Montessori organize nap time for young children for their comprehensive growth and development? Find out in the article below.
Everything is carefully prepared, from napping space, clothes, to children’s emotions prior to the sleep
Prior to sleep, teachers will reduce the light intensity in the room by pulling down the curtain and turning off lights for children to get ready and to make sure their nap won’t be interrupted.

Napping clothes are another thing to be well prepared for. Before the napping time, children will change into clean and comfortable clothes, allowing them to have a quality nap.

Gentle music is played during the napping time to make it easier for children to fall asleep, at the same time facilitate their intelligence and emotions.
Observations are made during their nap
It’s a common belief that when children are taking a lunchtime nap, all teachers can take their rest too. However, during the process, children often show bed-sleeping postures that need adjustment. Understanding this, while children are sleeping, teachers at Sakura Montessori will stay alert observing and frequently checking on them for timely intervention during their sleep.

How to wake children up
Along with before-sleep preparations, waking children up after a nap is another thing that requires attention. Sudden waking up or sudden bright light will put children in distress, resulting in crying and tantrums.

Therefore, here at Sakura Montessori, teachers will prepare children for waking up by gradually pulling up curtains, then gradually turning on lights to avoid sudden bright lights. The same goes for music. The volume will be increased bit by bit until all children have completely woken up. In this manner, children will easily “come back” to the environment after their nap.
Independence in children is encouraged before the nap
Young children at Sakura Montessori are always encouraged to do everything they are capable of doing on their own. And so, they are instructed how to prepare their napping items so that they can get things ready by themselves. Prior to sleep, children will prepare their beds, blankets, and pillows. After the nap, they will again make their beds themselves to get ready for afternoon lessons.

That is how nap time is organized at Sakura Montessori during the last 10 years for effective learning and comprehensive growth. Hopefully, parents will find this information useful for preparing a good nap time at home for their children.
