In the last week, children at Sakura Montessori Luong Khanh Thien had a chance to join various traditional folk games such as rope skipping, tug of war, bamboo jacks, dragon-snake – the familiar ones in the childhood of previous generations.
All children were eager and excited for joining each game. Cheerful faces, clumsy movement, and hearty laughter created beautiful moments for impressive childhood memories at Sakura Montessori.
With each game, children were encouraged to use their senses and motor skills to achieve agility, flexibility and endurance.
About this learning project, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong – the Principal of Sakura Montessori Luong Khanh Thien shared with us, “With the introduction of these traditional folk games to children, we hope to bring them an actual experience and new knowledge with traditional games in particular and beautiful cultural features of Vietnamese in general. Especially, with these folk games, Sakura Montessori also hopes to “nurture” a love, a pride, and appreciation in children’s mind for cultural games of previous generations, from which they can become “culture ambassadors” to promote unique cultural features of Vietnam to the world.”
