In the life skill lesson this week, teachers at Sakura Montessori Thuy Khue introduce a useful lesson to young children called the \u201cFive-finger rule\u201d.<\/div>\n

\u201cWith this lesson, we educate children on how to deal with different people based on the Five-finger rule. This rule is super simple and understandable to children, helping them to sense, distinguish, and stay away from dangerous people, at the same time to appreciate and protect their body.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Five-finger rule is super easy and simple for children to remember:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
– Thumb \u2013 The closest \u2013 represents family members such as grandparents, parents, and siblings: Children can hug and kiss these people, or allow these people to hug, kiss, show affection to, and wash them when they are little.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
– Pointer finger \u2013 represents teachers and friends at school, or relatives of children: Children can hold hands, put their arms on their shoulders, or play with them and that\u2019s all. If any of them touches the \u201cbikini area\u201d, the child must shout out and call for mommy.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
– <\/span>Middle finger \u2013 acquaintances who children don\u2019t get to see very often such as neighbours, and friends of their parents: Children should only shake hands, smile at, and say hello.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
–<\/span> Ring finger \u2013 acquaintances of the family who children see for the first time: Children should just wave hands at and say hello.<\/div>\n

– <\/span>Pinky finger \u2013 the furthest \u2013 represents strangers or people having intimate gestures which scare children: They must not talk to, should run away, and shout out if they approach.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

By using hands-on materials, familiar and simple words, along with songs, teachers introduce the Five-finger rule in the most natural way to children. Instructions were also given during the lesson for children to immediately practice.<\/div>\n
